M-1901 Navy Officer Dagger w/Ivory Grip, Damascus Blade & Deluxe Scabbard. Knight's helmet, (WK&C) TM. Gilted brass hilt fittings show surface wear with faint traces of gilting and remaining in recesses of open crown pommel with a "squared", engraved cross on top of crown and large capstan style crossguard heavy quillon block and raised style anchor motif on obverse. The upper rim of the crossguard is embellished with an oak leaf motif. Ivory grip shows light surface wear age with several hairline cracks along the left and right edges and two chips to the lower obverse adjacent to the crossguard. Double-fullered, "maiden hair" Damascus blade measuring 8 5/16" in length, grades Exc+, showing light surface wear/age with a few faint nicks to cutting edges, and is complete with off-white, felt blade buffer pad. Blade tang is marked with the famous double, "M + D" Angelsignatur of Master Damast Schmied Max Dinger as pictured on page 68 of A Guide To Military Dress Daggers by Kurt Glemser. Deluxe brass scabbard is illustrated in the period Aug. Lüneburg Waffenhaus Sales Catalog as model "335", and features an incised oak leaf motif above and below the oak leaf pattern suspension bands/rings, as well as on the lower portion of the scabbard and tip. Scabbard has several faint surface depressions on obverse/reverse lower shelland edges and is complete with both throat retaining screws. NOTE: Blade is approximately 1 ¾" shorter than the scabbard exactly as illustrated in the Lüneburg Catalog, as well as on ALL the other Naval daggers illustrated in the catalog. Nice Imperial example w/Max Dinger Damascus blade and deluxe scabbard. Exc+ (24655) $2,995.
