Royal Yugoslav Navy Officer's Dagger w/Etched Blade
& Hangers.No Maker TM. A photograph of this
Type I Navy Officer dagger can be found on page
275 of World Of Dress Daggers 1900 - 1945, Volume
I by Robert Berger. The gilded brass hilt fittings
show minor surface wear/age with traces of gilding
remaining in the recesses of the Turks knot pommel
and crossguard with two dolphins facing a sea shell
pattern quillon block with a reverse mounted blade
spring release button. The white solid celluloid
grip which has aged to a light greenish color shows
two small nicks to reverse, but no cracks and is
complete with brass twisted wire wrap. The center
ridge, double-etched blade with ricasso and scabbard
release spring grades EX++ shows light surface wear
and some minor gray shadowing, but no sharpening
or nicks to the cutting edges and is complete with
a brown leather buffer pad. The obverse blade features
a raised floral motif flanking a motif of the crowned
Yugoslav double-headed eagle crest while the reverse
blade features a floral motif flanking a central
royal cipher of King Alexander, 1921 - 1934 comprised
of a royal crown over a Cyrillic "A".
The brass scabbard features pebbled panels with
two impressed bay leaf pattern suspension bands
showing only light surface wear with several faint
depressions to the obverse/reverse lower Type I,
non-pebbled portion of scabbard. A smooth panel
below the upper scabbard fitting features a facsimile
of the pre-1929 crown, mantle and eagle Yugoslav
crest. The black leather double-strap hangers, similar
to those pictured on page 275 of the above reference,
grade EX++ showing light wear/age and are complete
with brass oval buckles and lower clips. EX++ (25706)
