Miniature South African Air Force
(SAAF) Dagger/Letter Opener w/o Scabbard. The
consignor of this RARE, possibly one-of-a-kind,
miniature states that, "[it] is the only one
I have ever come across and was apparently made
in the Air Force workshops as gift". The miniature
measuring 8 3/8" in overall length features
cast brass hilt fittings which match the design
of the full-size dagger, but with less detail. The
hilt is comprised of features a nozzle-shaped pommel
and crossguard shaped like the eagle emblem of the
SAAF. Quillons form the wings of the eagle with
the body and claws of the eagle forming the obverse
and reverse langets which are without the SAAF motto
as found on the full-size daggers. White leatherette-over-cast
brass base shows only light surface wear and is
divided into three sections by two ribbed, cast
brass ferrules. Plain, plated, cast diamond cross
section blade measuring 5 ¼" in length
shows some loss of detail and minor casting flaws,
but no speckling, graying or nicks to the cutting
edges, and is without buffer pad. RARE possibly
one-off, miniature. EX+/EX++ (26133) $395.
