Presentation M-1954 Polish Air
Force Officer's Dagger w/Hangers.No maker. Although
unmarked, this dagger was produced by the firm of
"Metaloplastyka" with headquarters in
the industrial city of Lodz, which had begun production
of Navy daggers in March, 1952. As stated on page
216 of A Guide To Military Dress Daggers Volume
III by Kurt Glemser, "In 1954 daggers were
introduced for officers of the Polish Air Force."
The silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface
wear/age patina to the plain, oval pommel with flat
top crowned by a decorative knob. The obverse pommel
features a raised a crownless eagle, the official
state emblem of Poland during the period 1945-1990
above a thin rim. The ferrule matches the shape
of the pommel and is complete with a tang spring
release button. The recurved crossguard is complete
with an opening for a portepee in the right quillon
tip. The smooth, oval, polystyrene, ivory-colored
grip shows minor wear/age, but no nicks or cracks.
The plated, center-ridge, double-edged blade grades
EX+ showing minor age/wear with some gray shodowing,
but no pitting or nicks to cutting edge. The obverse
ricasso is stamped with the weapon accountability
number, "17971" and blade is without buffer
pad. The obverse flat of blade is etched with the
4-line presentation, "Pulk Rochowi Hotoga/w
XXV - lecie stuzby w LWP/Dowodca Wojsk OPH/Pazdziernik
1975r." The dent-free, black patent leather
covered, steel-base scabbard show light surface
wear to leather, but no rips or tears and no damage
to the reverse stitching. The dent-free, silver-plated
upper, center and lower fittings show light surface
wear/age patina matching the hilt fittings. The
obverse upper fitting features an applied flying
eagle with wreath in mouth, Polish pilot's badge,
and both the upper and center fittings are complete
with hanger suspension rings. The white leather
hangers with attached belt loops show minor wear,
but no rips or tears to leather and are complete
with oval silver buckles. Nice example of a post-1945
