Forestry Hirschfänger. WKC knight's helmet
stamped TM. An illustration of this pattern Hirschfänger
appears in the WKC sales catalog as Nr. 94, "Glatter
Hirschfänger für Untere Forstbeamte mit
Hirschhornschalen" (Smooth Hirschfänger
for Subordinate/Under Forestry Official with Stag
Horn Grip Plates). Gilded brass hilt fittings show
light surface wear/minor age patina primarily to
the spine, and plain knuckle-bow, ferrule and crossguard
with stag hoof quillon and fluted clamshell. Dark/medium
brown stag horn grip plates are perfect with no
cracks or chips and with nice age toning. Grip plates
are complete with six gilted brass acorns without
oak leaves showing surface wear/age patina. Plated
double-etched blade grades EX+/EX++ showing surface
wear/runner marks and a few gray specks, but no
nicks to cutting edge. The WKC etch pattern pictured
on Hirschfänger pattern 97 in the above reference
features floral motifs surrounding an Auerhahn,
stag head and hunting equipment flanking a central
hunting motif. The obverse motif features a stag
and doe grazing in a forest while the reverse motif
depicts a hunting hound stalking two foxes. The
etched panels as well as the laurel leaf motif on
the blade spine, retain 100% of the light gray background
frosting, and blade is complete with a brown leather
buffer pad. Black leather scabbard shows surface
wear/age, but no rips or tears, and no damage to
the reverse stitching. Plain upper and lower gilded
brass scabbard fittings show wear/age patina and
are complete with both reverse retaining staples,
with no damage to the acorn motif suspension lug
on the obverse upper fitting. "21". Nice
original WKC Forestry Hirschfänger. recently
obtained in Germany. EX+ (26188) $895.
