Early RAD EM Hewer w/Full Stag Grip & Accountability
Number. Carl Eickhorn, serrated tail squirrel
within small double-oval) TM. Early nickel-silver
hilt fittings show minor surface wear/age patina,
with no damage to hilt, spine, crossguard or ferrule
area. Reverse ferrule is stamped, "Br. 928"
(possibly Arbeitsgau Brandenburg which was headquartered
in Berlin). The number "928" is most probably
the accountability number for the hewer. Rare, early
medium brown stag grip plates are perfect with no
cracks or chips and show nice age toning. Polished
blade grades EX/EX+, showing light surface wear/runner
marks with light gray speckling and minor light
surface pitting, but no nicks or damage to the cutting
edge or blade tip. Deeply-etched motto retains 100%
of the original light gray background frosting,
and the reverse is marked with the RAD diamond and
"Ges.Gesch". Dent-free steel scabbard
retains approximately 90% of the original black
enamel, showing light surface wear/crazing/scratches
and several small spots of missing paint. Nickel-silver
scabbard fittings show minor surface wear with a
few small surface depressions to the underside of
the lower fitting. Both fittings show superb detail
to the scroll-work on the upper fitting and the
wheat and spade motif on the lower fitting, and
all four retaining screws are present. Scabbard
throat is stamped with matching "Br. 928"
designation. Rare, early example with full stag
grip plates! EX+ (26190) $2,550.
