Ultra-Rare Royal Prussian Patent of Nobility with Presentation/Storage Chest. This superb, one-of-a-kind, six-page parchment document, hand signed by Wilhelm II "By grace pf God King of Prussia" was presented to Generalleutnant a.D. Paul Alvin Carl Theodor von Uhde on 24 December 1902. The document, in calligraphic text, is complete with color painted Coat of Arms with name of artist "von Borowitz u. Harttenstein", personally signed "Wilhelm R." and also signed by the Director or the Royal Prussian Herald Office and the calligrapher "Kurzhals". The parchment pages are bound in a hand tooled, brown leather portfolio measuring 14 ½" x 10 ¾". The front cover features a hand tooled black Royal Prussian Eagle with gilt crown clutching a gilt scepter and blue and gilt orb with genuine silver, decorative bosses on the corners of the cover. The rear cover is hand tooled in an interlocking diamond design with genuine silver pips at the corners of the design and stamped with the name of the binder "R.Burrius.Berlin." Attached to the portfolio by a silver/black cord with silver tassels is a .800 silver capsule stamped "26516" and the makers name "M. Schaper". The two piece capsule, in repousse', relief measures 15.5cm in diameter and features the Royal Prussian Eagle on the obverse with the "WII" cipher surrounded by oak leaves on the reverse. Inside the capsule is a 15.5cm diameter red wax seal with the coat of arms of the Royal Prussian Herald Office. The portfolio, with attached cord and silver capsule is complete with a hand tooled, brown leather presentation/storage chest measuring 17" long x 13 ¾" wide x 4 ¾" deep with interior covered in gold silk damask. The obverse of the chest features a hand tooled black Royal Prussian Eagle surrounded by an interlocking diamond design with a matching diamond design on the sides of the chest. The portfolio binding grades EX++/Near MINT showing minor wear to the lower highlights of the front cover eagle while the parchment pages are MINT with flawless calligraphy and color paint. The chest grades EX+/EX++ showing some surface wear to the leather and some aging and minor separation to the silk lining. Included with the Patent is a softbound photocopy of the original recommendation for elevation to nobility prepared by the Royal Prussian Herald Office and dated "12.Aug.02." as well as an original typed copy of the memorial service for Herrn Generalleutnant von Uhde held at the Zionskirche, Dresden on 29. August 1932. Rare, one-of-a-kind, historical grouping in superb condition. (23232) $4,995.

 

Royal Bavarian Regimental Stein, Medal, Document, Photograph & Book Grouping. This superb Royal Bavarian grouping was recently obtained from the family of the original owner, Reservist Hans Johann Danner, a pre-war reservist (1910-1912) with the 5th Company, Royal Bavarian Infantry Life Regiment who later saw wartime service as a member of the German Mountain Corps. M-89 Infantry Degen Candlesticks. Brass candlesticks consist of M-89 Infantry Degen sword hilts with folding handguard featuring the Imperial Eagle with "WRII" cipher with black leather covered grips complete with tight twisted wire wrap but without "WRII" cipher. Hilts are attached to filigreed brass bases and feature 2 3/4'" long plain plated blades to which are attached brass candleholders. Candlesticks show light age patina to brass and great detail with some gray speckling to the blades. Exc+ (23133) $695./Pr.

Postwar Handcrafted Miniature Garde du Corps Helmet.
This perfectly-scaled and detailed miniature helmet was handmade in Germany by a master miniature craftsman who takes almost an entire month to produce one helmet. Brass, M-1842 Cuirassier style helmet body with segmented "lobster tail" rear visor and Officer "stepped" front visor measures 61/8" x 61/2" and is complete with brass spike and nickel-plated spike column and base. Silver plated "helmet plate" features an eight pointed Guard star with a black Prussian Eagle in the center surrounded by laurel leaves and the motto "Suum Cuique" (To Each His Own). The helmet is complete with brass Officer style chin scales with a black/white Prussian cockade on the right. Interior of helmet is complete with correct Officer pattern green painted front visor and black colored rear visor as well as black leather sweatband. Superb quality miniature early pattern Garde du Corps Helmet. MINT (23123) $995.

Cased Portepee for Royal Bavarian Court Chamberlain's Key (Kammerherrrn Schüssel). During the Imperial era individuals serving as Chamberlains (officials) in royal courts and households wore a ceremonial key on their uniform as a badge of office. The key was attached to, and suspended from, an elaborate woven bullion portepee. This portepee consists of a 32 point, bright silver bullion star with a central motif of a matte gold bullion Royal Bavarian crown on a silver background within a high relief, embroidered silver bullion border. Attached to the lower edge of the star are two large, silver tassels (Quasten) with white silk backings and Bavarian light blue inserts. The reverse of the star is covered in heavy white paper and complete with a woven blue cord to attach the portepee to the uniform as well as a silver bullion loop from which the key was suspended. Included with the portepee are two gold bullion buttons that were also used with the portepee. Portepee shows no wear or age and grades MINT/unissued and is complete with the original light blue, hinged, cardboard issue case/box, which shows minor wear/age. The family from whom this item was obtained glued a paper tag on the exterior lid, which has not been removed because removal could damage the box. MINT/unissued (24039) $545.
  Imperial Sword Hilt/Marble Ashtray. Sword hilt features a gilted brass jeweler lion head pommel, ornate knuckle-bow with crossed swords and bandolier and deeply chiseled langet crossed artillery cannons. Hilt shows wear to highlights and backstrap but with much gilting remaining in recesses. Sword hilt is affixed to an octagonal, diamond shaped, black marble base ( 8" x 11 1/2"). Marble base shows light surface wear with a few minor nicks to edges. Quality period item and great hobby room display item. Exc+ (15878) $795.

 

Personalized Imperial Era Commemorative Pocketknife. C.W. Engels, Solingen-Foche, cherub in flight holding an "S" TM. This pocketknife measuring 3 11/16" in length (folded) with two blades and a corkscrew was recently obtained in Germany. Black Bakelite grip plates are perfect with no cracks or chips, and features on the obverse plate, a raised floral motif surrounding a mounted trooper with trumpet above a central panel inscribed "Treu Kaiser und Reich" (Honor Emperor and Empire). The reverse plate features a raised floral motif surrounding a facsimile of Kaiser Wilhelm I above a facsimile of the Imperial Crown and Eagle with a central panel inscribed "Einig und gleich" (United and equal). The larger polished blade grades EX+ showing minor graying/sharpening, but no nicks to the cutting edge. Obverse blade is jeweler engraved in script letters, "Friedrich Nemelich" with the obverse ricasso stamped the Cherub in flight TM. The smaller polished blade grades EX+ showing minor graying, but no sharpening with the obverse ricasso stamped C.W. Engels Solingen-Gr. Corkscrew shows minor wear with the obverse ricasso stamped with a star. Nice personalized commemorative pocketknife. EX+/EX++ (23570) $250.
