RARE Unissued Fabric/Bullion German
Cross in Gold. This unissued example was recently
obtained from the family of a Kansas City, Kansas
WWII veteran who brought the Cross back, along with
the accompanying Luftwaffe Honor Goblet of Luftwaffe
Bordschütz (aerial gunner) OberFeldwebel Hermann
Schrecke, as war booty in 1945. Herr Schrecke was
awarded the German Cross in Gold on 14 December
1942. Documentation on this award is included with
the Cross. This Cross features a dark gray thread
and silver bullion thread star plate with a gilt
metal oak leaf wreath on red fabric background edged
in bullion thread, surrounding a swastika. Is woven
of black thread with silver outlined border on a
white silk background disc. Backing is in Luftwaffe
blue felt and is without paper covering. Cross shows
some green oxidation to gilt metal oak leaf wreath
and minor age to white silk disc, but no wear or
damage to fabric star plate. Rare unissued example
with documentation. Exc++ (24530) $525.
