Early Gold Fire Official's Dagger w/Double-Etched

On p. 231 of The Sword and Knife Makers of Germany
1850-2000 Volume I, A-L by the late Anthony Carter,
the author states, "This firm [Carl Kaiser]
specialized
in supplying officers' swords [as well as] various
sidearms
for private sale". Gold-plated
brass hilt fittings feature a round pommel with
flat obverse/reverse featuring a raised diamond/floral
design, and crossguard with fireman's helmet on
the quillon block and "clover leaf" quillons
as seen on Eickhorn examples. As stated on page
221 of Collecting The Edged Weapons Of Imperial
Germany Volume I the gold daggers "are thought
to have been carried by senior personnel".
Hilt fittings show surface wear primarily to the
pommel with portions of plating remaining on the
crossguard. Black ray skin covered grip with triple-twisted,
gold wire wrap shows light surface wear, but rips
or tears. Plated, double-etched, single-edged, single
blood groove blade measuring 12 ½" in
length grades EX showing light surface wear and
some gray speckling, but no nicks cutting edges.
Both obverse and reverse feature 8 7/8" long
frosted panels with raised floral motifs flanking
motifs of fire equipment to include helmet, hook
and ladder and fire hoses. Blade is complete with
red felt blade buffer pad. Black leather scabbard
shows minor surface wear, but no creases, rips,
tears, or damage to the reverse stitching. Upper
and lower gilded brass fittings show surface wear/age
patina with portions of gilding remaining, and are
complete with both retaining staples as well as
double suspension rings. Upper reverse fitting has
two minor depressions. EX/EX+ (25785) $1,395.
