1st Model Navy Dagger w/"Depot" Markings & Rare
15-Year Service "Waffenmeister" Portepee. Carl Eickhorn
(stamped "C.E." squirrel double oval) TM. For more
information on the 1929 1st Pattern Navy dagger,
see page 80 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial
Germany. Brass hilt fittings show surface wear with
portions of gilting remaining in recesses of the
flaming ball/wave type pommel and crossguard with
fouled anchor design. Off-white celluloid-over-wood
grip shows light surface wear, with one small hairline
crack on lower reverse adjacent to ferrule. Is complete
with tight twisted brass wire wrap. Plain, double-fullered,
plated blade grades excellent+ showing light surface
wear with some light gray shadowing/speckling. Is
complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. Reverse
ricasso is stamped with the control number, "0.808",
indicating this dagger was the property of Ostseestation
headquartered in Kiel. Is additionally stamped with
the Weimar eagle over "M". Blade is equipped with
the blade locking device, but no push-button activator
is housed in the crossguard. Brass lightning bolt
pattern scabbard shows light surface wear with several
depressions on obverse and reverse, primarily towards
the tip. Scabbard is complete with reef knot style
scabbard suspension bands, with the reef knot only
on the obverse. Scabbard throat is also stamped
with the Weimar eagle over "M" depot stamp. Attached
to the dagger is an original, aged silver bullion
w/blue flecks portepee in proper reef knot tie,
showing uniform age and fraying to the cord. This
rare portepee was used to indicate 15 years of service
by a Waffenmeister which was a civil official in
the rank of 2nd Lieutenant serving as an Armorer.
Textbook example of a 1929 pattern Navy dagger with
