2nd Model Navy Dagger w/Portepee. WKC,
stamped knight's helmet TM. An illustration of this
pattern dagger appears in the WKC catalog as model
Nr. 41, "Marine-Offizier Dolch mit Ciselierter
Scheide". Gilted brass hilt fittings show light
surface wear to the highlights with portions of
the factory fire gilding remaining on the early
WKC eagle/swastika pommel and fouled anchor pattern
crossguard. Off-white celluloid-over-wood grip shows
light surface wear with no hairline cracks or chips
and is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap.
Plated, double-etched blade with fouled anchor motif
grades EX/EX+, showing light surface wear/runner
marks with minor gray shadowing near blade tip and
gray speckling to obverse/reverse ricassos, but
no nicks to cutting edges. Blade etch retains 100%
of the background frosting with a few gray specks,
and is complete with red/orange felt blade buffer
pad as used by WKC. Gilted brass, lightning bolt
pattern scabbard retains approximately 90% of the
factory lacquer with a few minor spots of wear to
obversereverse shell. Scabbard has several small
depressions on obverse shell, but no major damage,
and is complete with the WKC pattern heavier, well-detailed
oak leaf scabbard bands and unturned side-mounted
retaining screws. Dagger is complete with 42cm aluminum
portepee in proper reef-knot tie showing wear and
age with fraying to cord adjacent to crossguard.
Uncleaned WKC example recently obtained in Germany.
