No maker. For more information on the 1929 1st Pattern
Navy dagger, see page 80 of Collecting the Edged
Weapons of Imperial Germany, Volume I, by LTC (Ret.)
Thomas M. Johnson and Thomas T. Wittmann. Gilded
brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age
patina with portions of factory gilding remaining
in the recesses of the flaming ball/wave-type pommel
and crossguard with fouled anchor design. Off-white,
celluloid-over-wood grip shows light age toning,
with no cracks or chips, and is complete with tight,
twisted brass wire wrap. Plain, plated, double-fullered
blade grades EX++, showing light surface wear, but
no gray shadowing/speckling, pitting or nicks to
cutting edges and complete with black leather blade
buffer pad. Reverse ricasso is stamped, "D.O.V.
BERLIN" (possibly Deutsches Offizier Verein
Berlin) the German Navy equivalent of the German
Army Clothing Sales store in Berlin. The blade is
equipped with a blade locking device, but no push-button
activator is housed in the crossguard. The brass
lightning bolt pattern scabbard shows light surface
wear/age patina with a faint depression on the lower
obverse shell, and complete with reef knot style
scabbard suspension bands, with the reef knot only
on the obverse. Scabbard throat is also stamped,
"4". The original silver portepee in correct
"reef knot" tie shows age patina, but
no wear or fraying. EX+/EX++ (25515) $1,750. HOLD
