Model Navy Dagger w/Portepee, Hangers & U-T-Tunic
Belt. F.W. Höller, thermometer inside double
oval TM. This dagger complete with portepee and
hangers was recently obtained in Trier, Germany
directly from the family of the original owner.
Gilded brass hilt fittings show light surface wear
to the highlights with much factory gilding remaining
in the recesses of the eagle and swastika pommel
and fouled anchor crossguard with larger-than-normal
quillon tips unique to F.W. Höller produced
Navy daggers. Off-white, nicely age toned, celluloid-over-wood
grip shows light surface wear, but no cracks or
chips and is complete with tight spongy wire wrap.
Plated double-etched blade grades EX++ showing minor
surface wear/runner marks, but no gray speckling/shadowing
and no nicks to cutting edges. Blade retains 100%
of the light gray background frosting in the Höller
pattern fouled anchor and sailing ship motif blade,
and is complete with original black leather blade
buffer pad. Gilded brass, lightning bolt scabbard
shows light surface wear/age patina with portions
of the factory gilding remaining in the recesses
of the lightning bolt and acanthus pattern motif
with a faint depression on obverse/reverse lower
shell. Straight edged Höller pattern scabbard
suspension bands feature the thicker rings as normally
found on Höller products. The original 42cm
portepee in correct reef knot tie grades Near MINT
showing only light age toning to the nylon cord,
black flecked stem and acorn. NOTE: The Kriegsmarine,
in an effort to find a portepee that would withstand
the salt air, tried bullion, as well as white and
gray silk, cotton, nylon and wool. The original
black moiré hangers which show light wear
to fabric and fittings, but no rips or tears to
hangers or to the blue, under-the-tunic, woven belt.
