2nd Model Navy Dagger w/Portepee.Carl Eickhorn, stamped squirrel holding sword TM. An illustration of this pattern sword appears in the Eickhorn Kundendienst as Marine=Offizierdolch Nr. 1671. This textbook Eickhorn example shows virtually no wear to the highlights with 100% of the of honey gold factory fire gilding and lacquer remaining in the recesses of the Eickhorn pattern eagle/swastika pommel and fouled anchor crossguard with the larger quillon block found on Eickhorn examples. The off-white celluloid-over-wood grip is perfect with no cracks or chips and is complete with tight twisted brass wire wrap as used by Eickhorn. Plated double-etched blade grades EX++ showing only minor surface wear/runner marks primarily to the obverse and reverse ricasso with a few gray specks adjacent to the crossguard, but no nicks to the cutting edges. Blade is complete with tan felt blade buffer pad as used by Eickhorn and retains 100% of the light gray background frosting in the fouled anchor and floral motif etch pattern. Gilded brass lightning bolt scabbard retains approximately 97% of the factory fire gilding and lacquer with one spot of oxidation to the lower obverse shell with a faint depression on the obverse just above the upper edge of the lower scabbard suspension band. The upper surface and edge of the scabbard throat are covered in a blue wash that appears original to the dagger and may be some type of protective covering applied by the factory. The original 42cm, aluminum bullion portepee, in single reef knot tie, grades EX++ showing minor wear/age, but nor fraying and features the less commonly found woven thread acorn insert. Nice textbook Eickhorn 2nd Navy example. EX++ (25987) $1,400. SOLD
