Silver plated hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina with portions of factory darkening remaining to the recesses of the spherical pommel with raised sunwheel swastika, ribbed ferrule and crossguard with winged railcar wheel Bahnschutz insignia on the obverse langet. As is correct for an Eickhorn produced 2nd model Bahnschutz dagger, the crossguard winged insignia has a casting flaw in the right wing. Black solid celluloid ridged grip is perfect with no cracks or chips. Polished, blade grades Exc+/Exc++, showing runner marks and minor gray speckling, but no pitting or nicks to cutting edges. Blade is complete with dark brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free, silver-plated, steel scabbard retains much of the factory lacquer/frosting with a few brown age specks adjacent to the lower suspension band, but no pitting or other damage. Original aluminum bullion portepee with aluminum bullion cord with black flecks, black zig-zag woven slide/stem, and aluminum crown/acorn with woven black insert grades Exc+ showing minor wear/age with fraying adjacent to slide where cord has rubbed against the crossguard. Nice Eickhorn Bahnschutz example complete with ORIGINAL portepee, recently obtained in Germany. Exc++ (24555) $3,545.
