Unissued Transitional SA Dagger
w/Paper Issue Tag & Hanger. Seated dog holding
sword in his mouth within a circle bordered by PAUL
SEILHEIMER SOLINGEN etched TM. An illustration of
this pattern dagger appears in the Paul Seilheimer
sales catalog as "S.A. Dolch Nr. 160".
Nickel-silver hilt fittings show faint storage wear/age
with no SA Group mark on the lower reverse crossguard.
(The Group mark was normally applied at the SA distribution
center). Reddish-brown, fine-grained wooden grip
is perfect with no cracks, chips or depressions,
and is complete with aluminum grip eagle and SA
insert properly inset. Attached to the upper grip
is a Near MINT triangular paper RZM quality control
tag with faint age to paper, but no rips or tears
and no damage to the attaching stud. Tag is marked
on the obverse "SA-Dienstdolch nach Vorschrift
HERSTELLER: P.S. (P.S. is stamped in red ink). The
reverse is marked, "Reichszeugministerei der
NSDAP. A No 112761". Polished blade grades
EX+/EX++ retaining much of the factory cross-graining
with minor runner marks with light gray shadowing
i to obverse and reverse, but no nicks to cutting
edges. Deeply etched motto retains 100% of the light
gray background frosting. Dent-free steel scabbard
retains approximately 98% of the original chocolate
brown factory enamel with a few surface scratches
to center obverse shell, but no evidence of wear.
Dent-free, nickel-plated scabbard fittings show
minor surface wear with a spot of oxidation/lifting
on the lower edge of the upper fitting and left
edge of lower fitting, but no lifting and no damage
to the lower ball or to the scabbard screws which
appear to be unturned. The brown leather hanger
which appears to have never been buckled, grades
EX++ showing only minor wear to the unmarked leather
and oxidation/lifting to the nickel-plated buckle,
but no wear to the RZM M5/71 oLc marked upper clip.
Nice unissued SA dagger with paper issue tag. EX++
