Early Army Officer Dagger. Carl Eickhorn, squirrel
with serrated tail within small double oval TM.
Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear
with light age patina and portions of factory lacquer
remaining in the recesses of the well detailed oak
leaf pommel, as well as the crossguard with Eickhorn
1st pattern eagle. Reverse crossguard is jeweler
engraved with the original owner's name, "Mennig"
in printed letters. Medium yellow, solid celluloid
grip shows light surface wear with several dark
age spots adjacent to the ferrule, but no cracks
or chips. Plated blade grades EX+ showing light
surface wear/runner marks with some light gray speckling,
but no nicks to the cutting edges and is complete
with brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free,
silver-plated scabbard shows superb detail to the
pebbled shell and 1st style beveled type scabbard
bands with some speckling to the plating on the
upper scabbard edges. Scabbard is complete with
two side mounted scabbard throat retention screws
and thicker throat as used by Eickhorn and pictured
on page 24 of, Exploring The Dress Daggers of
the German Army by Thomas T. Wittmann. Dagger
is complete with EX+ original, 42cm portepee in
early style tie. Nice personalized Eickhorn example
recently obtained from a long-established German
