Unissued
Army Officer's Dagger. No maker. This dagger was
removed from the E.u. F. Hörster firm by an
Indiana WWII veteran in 1945 and remained in his
possession until purchased by JRB&M. This uncleaned
example retains approximately 75% of the original
factory lacquer on the oak leaf pommel, 2nd model
Luftwaffe ferrule (late-war use of existing parts)
and "generic" crossguard. Fittings show
dark, age patina where lacquer is missing and top
of pommel shows some minor speckling. Light yellow,
solid celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks or
chips. Polished blade grades Near MINT/MINT showing
only light age residue (which could be cleaned)
with no graying or nicks to cutting edges. Blade
is complete brown leather buffer pad and tang is
marked with the raised Hörster "H".
Dent-free, "generic" scabbard shows dark,
age patina primarily to scabbard edges where factory
lacquer has worn away, but no lifting or speckling.
The scabbard is complete with the thin throat and
the reverse, center-positioned, headless screw and
well-defined oak leaf scabbard bands associated
with "generic" scabbards. Nice veteran
acquired example. Near MINT (24878) $1,100.
