Uncleaned Personalized Army Officer's
Dagger w/Dark Orange Grip, Portepee & Hangers.
No maker. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light
surface wear/dark, uncleaned age patina to the oak
leaf embellished pommel and generic pattern crossguard
with small slope to the brow area between the upper
head and beak of the eagle. Reverse crossguard is
jeweler engraved in block letters with the personalization,
"1. Geb. Jg. Rgt. 100" above the name,
"Bauer" (1st Company Mountain Infantry
Regiment 100 Bauer). Dark orange celluloid grip,
age toned slightly darker on the obverse, shows
light surface wear/age toning in the recesses of
the grip swirls, but no hairline cracks or chips.
Polished blade with much cross-graining remaining,
grades EX++/Near MINT showing minor runner marks
with no gray speckling or nicks to cutting edges
and is complete with dark brown/black leather blade
buffer pad. Dent-free, silver-plated, 1st pattern
Eickhorn scabbard with dark uncleaned age patina
matching the hilt fittings is complete with the
early beveled suspension bands and center reverse
mounted flat-head retaining screw. Attached to the
dagger is an, original to the piece, 23cm portepee
showing wear/age/fraying to the cord and acorn.
The standard hangers show wear to the straps which
are the pattern without velvet backings. Research
in Das Deutsche Heer 1939 does not reveal an officer
named "Bauer" assigned to Mountain Infantry
Regiment 100, which possibly indicates Herr Bauer
was a reserve officer or was assigned to the regiment
after the publication of the rank list. This officer
could probably be further researched in German archives.
Included with the dagger are photocopies of the
Regiment 100 rank list entry and a short history
of the 5th Mountain Division to which the 100th
was assigned. EX++ (25652) $1,395. HOLD
