Uncleaned Army Officer's Dagger
w/Dark Orange Grip. Carl Eickhorn, etched squirrel
holding sword TM. This superb uncleaned example
was recently obtained from a long established, advanced
edged weapons collection in the southern United
States .Silver-plated hilt fittings show uncleaned,
dark, gun-metal gray age patina to well detailed
oak leaf embellished pommel, early ferrule with
well detailed oak leaves, and crossguard with Eickhorn
1st pattern eagle. This eagle features superb wing
feathering, and handwork to the checkering on the
eagle's chest and legs as pictured on page 24 of
Exploring The Dress Daggers of the German Army by
Thomas T. Wittmann. Dark orange, solid celluloid
grip, nicely age-toned darker on the obverse, is
perfect with no cracks or chips. Plated blade grades
EX++ showing minor surface runner marks and light
gray shadowing on lower obverse, but no pitting
or nicks to cutting edges, and is complete with
dark brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free,
silver-plated scabbard shows dark, age patina matching
the hilt fittings with superb definition to the
pebbled panels, and is complete with the thick throat
and center mounted flat-head screw often seen on
Eickhorn Army daggers. The scabbard features superbly
detailed oak leaves on the early beveled suspension
