Army Officer Dagger w/ Retailer's
Name, Portepee & Standard Hangers. Alcoso,
ACS scales above Solingen TM. This mid-production
example features the Alcoso pattern crossguard used
from approximately 1937-1940 as shown on page 21,
lower, of Exploring the Dress Daggers of the German
Army by Thomas T. Wittmann. Silver-plated hilt fittings
show dark, age patina to both the distinctive Alcoso
pommel with small base and outstanding oak leaf
detail and crossguard which retains much of the
factory finish and lacquer. Light orange, solid
celluloid grip has several aged hairline cracks,
one but no nicks or chips. Plated blade grades Near
MINT showing minor surface runner marks to flats
of blade, but no gray shadowing/speckling, pitting
or nicks to cutting edges and is complete with tan
leather buffer pad. Obverse blade is engraved with
the retailer's name and address, "ALBERT KUHL,
MÜNSTER 1/w.-ESSEN''. Dent-free silver-plated
scabbard shows age patina matching the pommel and
crossguard, and features the standard flathead scabbard
screws used throughout the production period by
Alcoso. Aluminum portepee grades EX+ showing light
wear with minor fraying to the cord where it has
rubbed against the crossguard, and features contrasting
colors in the stem. Standard hangers grade EX+ showing
light surface wear to the bullion facings and velvet
backings, silver-plated buckles/slides, pebbled
lower clips and aluminum, box-type upper fitting.
