GOVERNMENT
OFFICIAL DAGGER W/PORTEPEE, HANGERS & PHOTOGRAPH
OF OWNER
|
"Provided for our customers
this week is an extremely rare Government Official
Dagger combination with all accouterments and RARE
photograph of owner. The reverse of the photograph
has the handwritten dedication, Vater. Primsel
1940 above the name Knoll and
the numbers 934968. A one-of-a-kind
grouping with attribution that is almost impossible
to find in today's competitive Third Reich edged
weapons market".
Alcoso,
Solingen, ACS, scales TM. Silver-plated hilt
fittings show light surface wear with age
patina to the eagle head pommel, backstrap,
ferrule and crossguard, with portions of factory
darkening remaining in recesses of fittings.
Simulated mother-of-pearl grip plates are
perfect with no cracks, chips, or damage and
are lightly age toned. Mirror polished blade
grades Exc++ showing light surface wear/runner
marks with faint gray shadowing, but no pitting
or nicks to cutting edges and is complete
with original blue leather blade buffer pad.
Silver-plated scabbard shows light age patina
with some minor surface crazing to edges with
a faint depression to the lower obverse shell.
The lower oak leaf suspension band is slightly
loose on the shell, but with no lifting to
plating. Dagger is complete with a 42cm portepee
with standard acorn in Exc+ condition, that
appears original to the dagger. The hangers
grade Exc+ showing light wear/age to the silver
herringbone bullion facings on Feldgrau velvet
backings as used with the M-1939 Gray Service
Uniform. Hangers are complete with aluminum
upper fitting with black leather belt loop,
buckles/slides, and gray metal lower clips
which show minor surface wear. The period,
black/white studio portrait measuring 3 3/8"
X 5 ½" features a Government Official
in M-1939 Service Uniform with visor cap,
gloves and dagger. Clearly visible on the
lower left sleeve of the tunic is the silver
bullion, M-1939 insignia for Group III (Pay
Group A 2 a to A c 2 1), consisting of a "shield-form
of one narrow/one wide/one narrow stripes
with a national emblem at the top". On
the reverse of the photograph is the handwritten
inscription, "Vater. Primsel 1940"
above the name "Knoll" and the numbers
"934968". Nice Government Official
combination with all accouterment and RARE
photograph of owner. NOTE: JRB&M has not,
will not, disassemble this dagger to inspect
for internal markings. Exc+/Exc++ (24473)
$8,550.
