Government Official's Dagger w/Portepee & Hangers. Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, etched squirrel-holding-sword TM. Although both the Eickhorn and Alcoso Firms produced Government Official's Daggers, the Eickhorn produced daggers are much more RARE than the Alcoso daggers. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear with dark, gun-metal gray age patina to the eagle head pommel, backstrap, ferrule and crossguard, with the more up-turned tips on the eagle's wings as found on Eickhorn produced daggers. Simulated mother-of-pearl grip plates are perfect with no cracks, chips, or damage and are lightly age toned. Mirror polished blade grades EX++ showing light surface wear/runner marks with faint gray shadowing and two tiny nicks, a small "scrape" to the left cutting edge, and a small "crimp" to the blade tip, but no pitting. The blade is complete with the original black leather buffer pad. The dent-free, silver-plated scabbard shows virtually no wear with dark, gun-metal gray age patina, matching the hilt fittings, with superb detail to the oak leaf embellished suspension bands. The scabbard throat is the thicker pattern as used on Eickhorn produced Army daggers and is secured by two, side-mounted, headless screws. The dagger is complete with a 42cm portepee with standard acorn in EX+ condition, which appears original to the dagger. The portepee tie is pictured on page 94, left of Collecting the Edged Weapons of The Third Reich Volume I. The hangers grade Near MINT showing virtually no wear/age to the silver herringbone bullion facings or black felt backings, are complete with an aluminum upper fitting, oak-leaf embellished buckles/slides, and gray metal lower clips which show minor surface wear. RARE Government Official's combination with all accouterments recently obtained in Germany.Government Official daggers produced by the Carl Eickhorn firm are both rare and desirable.
