Subordinate Forestry Hirschfänger. WKC knight's
helmet TM. An illustration of this pattern Hirschfänger
appears in the WKC sales catalog as Nr. 95, "Fein
Ciselierter Hirschfänger für Untere Forstbeamte
mit Hirschhornschalen" (Fine Chiseled Hirschfänger
for Subordinate/Under Forestry Official with Stag
Horn Grip Plates). Gilted brass hilt fittings show
surface wear/dark age patina primarily to the upper
spine, and oak leaf embellished knuckle-bow with
much factory gilting remaining on the ferrule and
crossguard. Deluxe pattern clamshell features a
raised hunting dog in forest setting showing age
patina and surface wear to the highlights and border.
Dark/medium brown stag horn grip plates are perfect
with no cracks or chips and with nice age toning.
Grip plates are complete with six gilted brass acorns
with oak leaves showing some surface wear and age
patina. Plated double-etched blade grades excellent
showing surface wear/runner marks, some gray speckling/shadowing,
and one tiny nick to lower cutting edge. Blade etch
features floral motif flanking a central panel containing
hunting scenes of hounds, foxes, stag and doe herd
showing surface wear and some dark speckling to
the background frosting. Reverse ricasso is stamped
with the name of the retailer/distributor, "C.A.
Staemle Stuttgart" and is complete with brown
leather blade buffer pad. Black leather scabbard
shows only minor wear/age with no rips, tears, creases,
or damage to the reverse stitching. Upper and lower
gilted brass scabbard fittings show light wear with
much factory lacquer remaining on the obverse upper
fitting, while the reverse lower fitting shows some
spots of dark green oxidation. Both scabbard fittings
are marked on the reverse with "4" and
are complete with both retaining staples. Nice original
WKC Forestry Hirschfänger recently obtained
in Germany complete with distributor/retailer's
