Early
Subordinate Forestry Hirschfänger w/Portepee
& Frog. Initials ACS with scales EARLY TM. This
Vorschriftsmässig (Regulation) Hirschfänger
with stag horn grip plates was recently obtained
in Germany complete with portepee and frog. Gilted
brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age
patina to the plain hilt/spine, unadorned knuckle-bow,
crossguard and clamshell with fluted motif. Dark
brown stag horn grip plates are perfect with no
cracks or chips, and are complete with three brass
acorns without oak leaves on both obverse and reverse
grip plates. Plated, double-etched blade grades
EX++ showing only minor surface wear/runner marks,
but no graying, lifting or nicks to cutting edge,
and is complete with green felt buffer pad. Etch
pattern features scenes of hunting dog, foxes, stag
and doe surrounded by trees and floral design with
100% of the light gray background frosting in the
blade etch and the laurel leaf motif on the blade
spine. Black leather scabbard shows minor surface
wear, but no nicks, rips, tears, creases or damage
to the reverse stitching. Plain, scabbard fittings
show light surface wear w/dark age patina with one
pinhead size depression to the obverse lower fitting,
and are complete with retaining staples. Attached
to the scabbard is an original tan leather, V-notch
frog with green felt backing in EX++ condition complete
with original green/silver bullion portepee in EX
condition that appears original to the piece. Nice
early Alcoso Subordinate example with all accouterments.
