Early Boar's Head Hilt Hunting Hirschfänger
w/Deluxe Scabbard. No Maker. Heavy, cast gilted
brass fittings show surface wear to highlights with
traces of gilting remaining in the recesses of the
boar's head pommel, plain ferrule straight crossguard
with panther head quillons and clamshell with raised
motif of a downed stag being attacked by hunting
hounds. Large central quillon block features a raised
hunting hound on the obverse and a grazing stag
on the reverse. Off-white/light brown stag horn
grip shows light age toning with no cracks or chips.
Heavy, straight, plain Bowie-style blade measuring
11 ½" (L) X 1 5/8" (W) X ¼"
(Thick), grades VG+ showing gray spotting, some
lifting and a few very faint nicks to cutting edge.
Blade is complete with green felt blade buffer pad.
The brown leather scabbard shows wear and nicks
to leather but no rips or tears or damage to reverse
stitching. Both upper and lower gilted brass fittings
feature repoussé relief floral and hunting
equipment motifs. Upper fitting with side mounted
suspension clips is designed to accept a skinning
knife, which has been lost to time. Exc. (24032)
