Forestry Hirschfänger w/Ivory Grip & V-Notch
Frog. Ernst Pack & Söhne G.m.b.H. Waffenfabrik,
Solingen, large Seigfried Waffen TM. An illustration
of this pattern Hirschfänger, recently obtained
in Germany appears in the reprint of the Ernst Pack
& Söhne Sales Catalog on page 173, upper
of Collecting The Edged Weapons of The Third
Reich Volume II as Nr. 18. Gold washed brass
hilt fittings show surface wear primarily to the
gold wash on the plain hilt spine, but little wear
to unadorned knuckle-bow and crossguard with stag
hoof quillon, and fluted clamshell. Off-white, nicely
toned, genuine ivory grip plates show light surface
wear with no cracks or chips, and are complete with
three acorns without oak leaves on both obverse
and reverse grip plates. Polished, double-etched
blade measuring 12 ¾" in length grades
EX+ showing virtually no surface wear/runner marks,
but with some gray shadowing, but no pitting or
nicks to cutting edge and is complete with green
felt blade buffer pad. Both obverse and reverse
blade feature 8 ¼" long etched panels
with an Auerhahn and stag head flanking hunting
scenes of stag and doe, foxes and hunting dog as
illustrated on page 176 of the above reference.
Both panels retain 100% of the light gray background
frosting as well as to the laurel leaf motif on
the blade spine. Black, fine grained leather covered
scabbard shows light surface wear with no dents,
rips or tears and no damage to the reverse stitching.
Dent-free, upper and lower gold washed, brass fittings
show surface wear/age patina with both upper and
lower reverse retaining staples present. Green leather
v-notch frog grades EX++ showing light wear, but
no rips or tears with portions of green felt backing
remaining. Nice Ernst Pack example. Exc+/Exc++ (24341)
$1,750.
