Presentation (Ehrengeschenk) Hirschfänger w/Double-Etched Blade. Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, quirrel above C.E. within double-oval stamped TM. An example of this presentation pattern hirschfänger, which was apparently carried over into the Third Reich era, appears in the 1908 Eickhorn sales catalog as Pattern No. 190 as "Ehrengeschenk-Hirschfänger". Gilded brass deluxe hilt fittings show light surface wear with virtually 100% of the factory gilding remaining in the recesses of the heavily chiseled oak leaf pommel, serrated ferrule, crossguard with oak leaf quillon block, and recurved stag and doe quillons. Well detailed clamshell features a forest scene with hunting hounds attacking a boar. Dark brown stag horn grip is perfect with no cracks, chips, or damage, and is complete with three gilded acorns/oak leaves on the obverse. Polished, double-etched blade measuring 14 ½" in length grades EX++ showing light surface wear/runner marks with a small area of gray shadowing on the lower revrse, but no nicks to the cutting edge. Obverse blade features a 10 ¼" long etched panel with an Auerhahn and stag motif flanking a center frosted panel with the 3-line inscription in raised block letters, "DEM JEWEILLIGEN KÖNIG DES SCHÜTZENVERINS LANGERBERG GEWIDMET VON ARTHUR KREMERS" (TO THE RESPECTED KING OF THE LANGENBERG SHOOTING ASSOCIATION PRESENTED BY ARTHUR KREMERS). Reverse blade features an 10 ¼" long etched panel featuring a stag and wild bird motif flanking a center frosted panel of a forest scene of a hunter with hounds attacking a wild boar. Both panels and oak leaf etch on blade spine retain 100% of the background frosting, are "Ges.Geschutz" marked, and blade is complete with brown felt blade buffer pad. Black leather scabbard shows light surface wear with some surface scratches and nicks but no creases nor damage to the reverse stitching. Upper and lower gilded brass fittings show minor surface much factory gilding and lacquer remaining with both upper and lower reverse retaining staples present. Superb presentation shooting hirschfänger. EX++ (25584) $3,850. SOLD
