Hunting Hirschfänger w/Skinning Knife.J.A.
Hencklels, Zwilligswerk, etched twins above Germany
TM. This export pattern example shows minor wear/age
to the gilded hilt fittings which feature a dome-style
pommel nut, fluted pommel cap, plain ferrule, straight
crossguard with stag hoof quillons and fluted clamshell.
The reddish brown, stag horn grip without grip acorns
is perfect with no chips or cracks. Plated, double-etched
blade measuring 16" in length grades Near MINT
showing minor runner marks, but no lifting, graying
or nicks to cutting edges. The obverse blade features
a 7 ½" long etched panel consisting
of an oak leaf sprig and stag flanking a motif of
hunting equipment and game while the reverse blade
features a 7 ½" long etched panel with
an oak leaf sprig and fox flanking a motif of hunting
equipment and game. The blade spine features an
oak leaf motif running the length of the blade etched
panels and is complete with green felt buffer pad.
The black leather scabbard shows only minor wear/age
with no rips, tears or damage to the reverse stitching.
Brass upper and lower fittings show light age patina
with no depressions or surface damage. The upper
fitting is fitted with a skinning knife with a stag
horn grip and 4 ¼" long double-etched
blade features a motif of oak leaves, stag head
and hunting equipment. Nice Henckels example produced
for the export trade.
