Third
Reich Hunting Hirschfänger. Carl Eickhorn,
stamped squirrel-holding-sword TM. An illustration
of this Hirschfänger appears in the Eickhorn
Kundendienst as "Borschriftsmässiger Hirschfänger
Nr. 1692 für die Deutsche Jägerschaft"
(Regulation Hirschfänger Nr. 1692 for the German
Hunting Association). Silver-plated hilt fittings
show minor wear with dark age patina to the fluted
pommel cap, recurved crossguard with stag hoof quillons
and fluted clamshell. Dark brown, nicely age-toned
staghorn grip is perfect with no cracks or chips
and is complete with silver-over-bronze Hunting
Association emblem properly pinned to the obverse.
Plated double-etched blade grades EX, showing light
surface wear/runner marks with minor nicks to both
cutting edge and spine, but no lifting or pitting
to plating.. Etched panels feature standard hunting
scenes of hunter, stag and doe on obverse and hunter
with hunting dogs attacking boar on the reverse
as illustrated in the Kundendienst. Blade is complete
with green felt blade buffer pad and shows only
light wear to the gray background frosting in the
etch. Green leather scabbard shows some surface
wear/minor scuffs and loss of color, but no rips,
tears, or creases. Silver-plated scabbard fittings
show age patina matching the hilt fittings and are
complete with both retaining staples. The lower
fitting has several minor depressions to obverse/reverse.
