2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger w/Double-Etched Blade
w/Glass-like Grip. Emil Voos, stamped snake around
tree trunk single oval TM. This dagger exhibits
all of the textbook features associated with Voos
produced double-etched blades: impressive etch motifs,
contrasting frosted panels, 2nd pattern Luftwaffe
eagle with laurel leaf sprigs, and heavy nickel
plating. Generic aluminum hilt fittings, as normally
seen on Voos produced dagger, show light surface
wear/age with much factory darkening remaining on
the pommel with three upward pointing acorns and
crossguard with generic relief style quillons with
right over left oak leaf design and large pebble
pattern on the reverse. Light yellow, glass-like,
solid celluloid grip shows virtually no wear and
no cracks, but with one small chip on the upper
obverse adjacent to the pommel. Grip is complete
with tight springy aluminum wire wrap as normally
found on Voos grips. High quality heavily plated
double etched blade grades Exc++ showing light surface
wear with some minor scratches near the tip, but
no lifting to plating or nicks to cutting edges.
Etched panels retain 100% of the factory background
frosting and the blade is complete with dark blue
leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free scabbard shows
only light surface wear with a few areas of minor
oxidation to the matte gray finish remaining. Throat
is retained by one headless flush mounted screw
on the upper reverse. Dagger is complete with 23cm
portepee in EX+ condition showing light to wear
primarily to cord. For more information on Voos
produced 2nd model Luftwaffe daggers with double-etched
blades, see pages 231 - 232 of Exploring the
Dress Daggers of the German Luftwaffe by
Thomas Wittmann. Excellent example of a Voos produced
2nd model Luftwaffe dagger with double-etched blade.
Exc++ (24447) $8,795.
