Unissued 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger w/Gilded
Swastikas & Hörster Issue Bag. No maker.
As stated on page 213 of Exploring the Dress Daggers
of the German Luftwaffe by Thomas T. Wittmann, "Hörster
did not make their own fittings, preferring to purchase
them from other sources". This dagger is an
example of this practice. The SMF pattern pommel
with light gray factory finish and lacquer and crossguard,
with Eickhorn oak leaf pattern on the upper surface
of the quillon, show virtually no wear to finish
and no loss of detail. Pommel swastikas retain approximately
90% of the factory muted honey gold finish. Off-white,
celluloid-over-wood grip shows virtually no surface
wear with no chips cracks and is complete with springy
aluminum wire wrap. Polished blade grades Near MINT
showing onlyl light runner marks on the flats of
the blade, but gray shadowing, pitting or nicks
to cutting edges, and is complete with tan leather
blade buffer pad. Dent-free, WKC pattern steel scabbard
retains 100% of the factory gray finish with no
wear or oxidation and is complete with a single
reverse-mounted, headless screw. The dagger is complete
with an original Hörster marked, tan paper
issue bag. Near MINT/MINT (25489) $1,595.
