Early
1st Model Luftwaffe Dagger w/Portepee & Variation
Scabbard. SMF, seated king TM. Uncleaned nickel-silver
hilt fittings show yellow,age patina to pommel,
upper and lower ferrules and crossguard with wear
to the background of the pommel swastikas, but no
damage to the crossguard swastikas. Underside of
crossguard is unit marked, "I./253". Dark
blue leather grip shows light surface wear with
a few small nicks to leather, but no rips or tears,
and is complete with tight, triple-twisted, silver
wire wrap. Plated blade grades EX++ showing light
surface wear/runner marks and one tiny nick to right
cutting edge, but no graying, lifting or damage
to tip. Blade is complete with blue leather blade
buffer pad. Blue leather scabbard shows only minor
wear to lower edges with no scuffs, rips or tear.
Obverse and reverse flats of scabbard feature variation
impressed line in the leather similar to those found
on hunting/forestry scabbards. Nickel-silver upper,
center, and lower scabbard fittings show light wear/
a few faint depressions and age patina with all
flush-mounted retaining screws present. Nickel-silver
chain hanger featuring 9 upper and 13 lower early
beveled rings with early unmarked nickel-silver
clip shows light age patina, but no damage to rings
or connectors. Portepee shows light wear/age, but
no rips or tears. Nice early example with variation
