2nd Model Luftwaffe
Dagger w/Gilded Pommel Swastikas.F. Herder,
crossed keys TM. Since the F. Herder Firm is not
noted as a major manufacturer of 2nd Model Luftwaffe
Daggers, this example was most likely produced by
F.Herder using fittings from the Carl Eickhorn and
WKC firms, as well as additional "generic"
parts. Aluminum hilt fittings with airplane gray
factory finish show virtually no wear to the Eickhorn
pattern "heart-shaped" pommel with gilded
swastikas which retain virtually 100% of the muted
gold finish used by Eickhorn, as well as the crossguard
with the left over right oak leaf pattern on the
upper quillon as used by WKC. Medium orange, solid
celluloid grip with tight springy aluminum wire
wrap shows light surface wear/age with one tiny
chip on the lower obverse where the grip meets the
ferrule. The polished blade grades EX++ showing
minor runner marks with light gray residue which
could probably be cleaned away, but no pitting or
nicks to cutting edges, and is complete with dark
brown leather buffer pad. Dent-free, "generic
pattern scabbard shows a few small spots oxidation
to the upper right edge, but retains 100% of the
airplane gray factory finish on the obverse/reverse
pebbled panels. The well-detailed oak-leaf suspension
bands retain virtually 100% of the airplane gray
finish with oxidation to the suspension rings with
the scabbard throat retained by two headless, side-mounted
screws. Nice dagger with superb gilded pommel swastikas.
