Model Luftwaffe Dagger w/Waffen-Amt Stamp, Unit/Property
Markings & Portepee.Paul Weyersberg, sword
within wreath double-oval TM. This dagger as well
as several other edged weapons was recently obtained
from the widow of a Florida WW II veteran and retired
Army Colonel. Nickel-silver hilt fittings show light
surface wear/yellow age patina to pommel, upper
and lower ferrules and crossguard with loss of plating
to background of brass crossguard swastikas, but
no damage to background of Pommel swastikas. The
underside of the crossguard, hidden by the blue
leather blade buffer pad, is stamped, "ST.FL.
19" and "817" (possibly Flying Squadron
19, weapon accountability No. 817). Dark blue leather
grip shows light surface wear and a few tiny "pecks",
but no rips, tears or loss of color, and is complete
with tight twisted wire wrap. Plated blade grades
EX/EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks,
minor gray speckling and with spotting to the obverse/reverse
flats of blade where runners have rested, but no
lifting, pitting or nicks to cutting edges. Reverse
ricasso is stamped with a Waffen-Amt stylized eagle
and the number "5" and blade is complete
with blue leather buffer pad. Blue leather covered
scabbard with metal inner shell, shows light surface
wear with a period, possibly factory repaired/re-leathered
seam, but no major rips, tears or loss of color.
Nickel-silver, upper, center, and lower scabbard
fittings show surface wear/age patina with a few
surface "pings" to the lower fitting,
and are complete with all five headless retaining
screws present. The reverse upper fitting is stamped,
"ST/FL. 19" matching the crossguard stamping.
Early nickel-silver chain hanger featuring 9 upper
and 14 lower rings shows light age/wear, but no
damage to rings or connectors, and is complete with
early unmarked, nickel-silver clip. The 23cm portepee
grades EX+ showing minor wear, but no fraying and
appears original to the piece. Nice early Weyersberg
example with unit/property markings. EX+/EX++ (26288)
$1,350. SOLD
