Unusual
Imperial Forestry Hirschfanger. Beautiful ivory
grip features three acorns on both obverse and reverse.
Hilt retains almost 100% of its original fire gilting.
Standard fluted clamshell and down-turned hooves
crossguard. Double-engraved slab-type blade has
typical hunting scenes with a boar, hunting dogs,
elk on both obverse and reverse. Is complete with
original felt buffer pad. Overall, the blade grades
excellent, with minor spotting. Scabbard is most
unusual with a very ornate upper fitting featuring
a convex boar's head which protrudes from the fitting
and acts as a frog lug. The definition to this boar's
head is exceptional. Skinning knife is missing.
Scabbard leather is very nice, with no rips, tears,
or swelling. Lower fitting is also ornate with engraved
elk and oak leaves. What is unique is that the bottom
drag is cut out with three holes and a bird in the
middle. Comes complete with original brown leather
frog which was specifically made to fit this piece
because of the boar's head lug. Exc+ (15104) $1,495.
