Long Imperial Hunting Hirschfanger. Knecht, Solingen TM. This long Hirschfanger measures 29 1/2" in overall length. Gilted brass hilt fittings feature oak leaf embellished crossguard and clamshell with stag and doe in forest scene. Hilt fittings show light wear and age. Dark brown stag grip plates show light age and minor surface wear. Grip plates feature oak leaf embellished medallions (three per side) with the obverse upper medallion missing. Polished blade is lightly engraved on each side with crossed cannon and bugle, flags and military pennants. Blade grades excellent with uniform graying throughout but no nicks or damage. Black leather scabbard shows surface wear and some minor chipping to surface of leather but no nicks or tears. Upper and lower fittings are of gilted brass showing light surface wear. Upper fitting is designed for a skinning knife, but knife is missing. Reverse upper fitting is stamped "Kohl". Lower fitting features stylized oak leaves and a wheat leaf pattern to near tip of fitting. Exc. (16513) $950.
