Imperial
Hunting Hirschfanger. WK&C, king's head
& knight's helmet double TM. Bronzed steel hilt
fittings show light surface wear/age to fluted pommel
cap, ferrule, and recurved crossguard, with raised
boar's head on obvese and reverse quillon block.
Clamshell features a well-detailed stag being chased
by two hunting dogs. Dark brown staghorn grip is
perfect with no cracks or chips, and superb detail
to stag. Plated double-etched blade measuring 17
½" in length grades excellent, showing
light surface wear with uniform gray spotting, and
several tiny nicks to cutting edge. Both obverse
and reverse blade feature 9" long etched panels
featuring a hunting motif of stag and doe, rabbits,
hunting equipment, and hunter with hunter horn and
dog. Both panels retain 100% of the background frosting
which shows minor gray spotting. Blade is complete
with original green felt blade buffer pad. Black
leather scabbard shows uniform surface wear with
some loss of finish to leather and wear to portions
of reverse stitching. Bronzed steel scabbard fittings
show light surface wear/age spotting but no dents
or damage, with both retaining staples present.
Scabbard is fitted for a skinning knife, but the
knife has been lost to time. Unusual WK&C Hunting
Hirschfanger with bronzed fittings. Exc. (21551)
$795.
