Cased Imperial
Miniature Hunting Hirschfänger/Letter Opener
w/o Scabbard. No maker. The Hirschfänger/letter
opener measuring 7 11/16" in overall length
features 1-piece cast silver metal hilt fittings
with dark age patina to fluted pommel cap, recurved
crossguard, and clamshell with boar's head inside
oak leaf wreath. Cast silver metal simulated stag
horn grip features two oak leaves/acorns on the
obverse. Plated double-etched blade with rounded
letter opener style tip measures 5 3/8" in
length showing light age/wear with some minor lifting
to the plating near tip, and two small surface nicks
to lower edge. Obverse blade etch features a forest
scene with hunter, hunting dogs, and wild boar,
while reverse forest scene features a running stag
and doe. Blade is complete with original felt buffer
pad, and both etch panels retain 100% of the background
frosting. Burgundy leatherette hinged case with
impressed gilt floral border on exterior lid. Attached
to the lid are the silver gothic script letters,
"S" and "R" inlaid with turquoise
flanking a gilt crowned elk horn logo of the Imperial
Hunting Association. Interior lid is lined in padded
white silk showing light age, with lower fitted
portion covered in dark green velvet. Nice personalized
cased Imperial miniature Hirschfänger/letter
