Imperial
Mining Service (Bergbau) Sword w/Double-Etched Blade
& Sword Knot. Side-by-side king's head &
knigh's head above WK&C TM. An illustration
of this pattern sword appears in the Imperial Weyersberg,
Kirschbaum & Cie. Sales catalog as pattern No.
139 (Bergmanns - Schleppsäbel). Plain, gilded
brass hilt fittings show light surface wear, with
portions of the gilding remaining on pommel/backstrap,
knuckle-bow and crossguard. A silver Miner's hammer
and mallet insignia of the Mining Service (Bergbau)
is pinned to the obverse langet. Black sharkskin
grip shows light surface wear with one small crack
to sharkskin/wooden base on upper obverse, but no
damage tight triple-silver wire wrap. Plated, double-etched
blade measuring 33" in length grades EX+ features
13 1/8" long etched panels on both obverse
and reverse with floral and military equipment motifs
on light gray frosted background. Both panels, as
well as the laurel leaf motif on the blade spine,
show only minor wear to the background frosting.
Lower blade shows minor gray speckling and several
tiny nicks to cutting edge and is complete with
original red felt blade buffer pad. Black leather
scabbard shows surface wear/scuffs and one minor
crease, but no rips or tears and no damage to the
reverse stitching. Upper, center, and lower gilded
brass fittings show traces of gilding with a minor
depression to the reverse upper fitting and to obverse
lower fitting. All three retaining staples are present.
The original Miner's gold bullion sword knot with
black stripes grades EX+ showing light wear/age
patina, but no rips or fraying. Exc+ (25532) $1,850.
