Navy Officer's Dagger w/Ivory Grip & Double-Etched
Blade. No Maker. Gold-plate, over steel hilt
fittings show surface wear with portions of honey
gold factory gilding remaining in recesses of superbly
detailed open crown pommel with "squared",
engraved cross on top of crown, and large capstan
style crossguard with heavy quillon block and raised
anchor motif. Ivory grip shows light surface wear
age with several hairline cracks along the left
and right edges and one chip to the upper obverse
adjacent to the underside of the pommel and is complete
with twisted brass wire wrap. Plated, double-fullered,
double-etched blade grades EX+ showing light surface
wear with minor graying primarily to ricasso, but
no nicks to cutting edges and is complete with red
felt blade buffer pad. Obverse blade features a
4 ½" long lightly etched panel with
a floral design beneath a large, fully rigged sailing
ship. Reverse blade features a matching lightly
etched panel with a floral design beneath an Imperial
crown and fouled anchor. Gold-plate, over steel
scabbard grades EX showing surface wear with only
traces of gilding remaining in the lightening bolt
motif. There is a pinhead size depression on the
upper obvese shell and a depression on the obverse/reverse
at the upper edge of the acanthus leaf panel on
the lower shell. Scabbard is complete with well
detailed, heavily chiseled oak leaf and acorn pattern
suspension bands and rings. Late-war, all steel
construction example with superb detail to hilt
