M-1921
Naval Dagger w/Hammered Scabbard.
No maker TM. See pages 76 - 80 of Collecting the
Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany for information
and photographs on this pattern dagger and scabbard.
Brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age
patina to the threaded type flaming ball/"waves"
pommel and crossguard with fouled anchor motif on
the obverse/reverse quillon block. Black bakelite
grip shows light surface wear with no cracks or
chips and is complete with tight twisted brass wire
wrap. Typical low quality, plain, center ridge,
plated blade grades EX showing surface wear/scratches
and gray speckling to obverse/reverse, but no lifting
or pitting, and is complete with tan leather buffer
pad. The dent-free, gilded brass, hammered scabbard
shows virtually no wear to the polished highlights
and retains 100% of the matte gold frosting in the
recessed of the hammered pattern. Scabbard is complete
with figure-of-eight knot suspension bands. The
scabbard throat is retained by one flush mounted
screw. Nice original piece recently obtained in
Germany. EX+ (26054) $1,550.
