M-1901 Imperial Navy Officer Dagger.
"High neck" knight's helmet (WKC) introduced
about 1912 TM. This superb unaltered M-1901 example
measures 19" in overall length and was recently
obtained in Germany. Gilted brass hilt fittings
show light surface wear with traces of gilting remaining
in recesses of open crown pommel with square engraved
pommel cross and to the large capstan style crossguard
and heavy quillon block with fouled anchor motif.
Crossguard retains virtually 100% of the fire gilting
on the quillon arms as well as to the heavily chased
quillon block. Genuine ivory grip without wire wrap
shows only light surface wear with no cracks or
chips and features nicely age toned striations throughout.
Long plated center-ridge double-etched blade measuring
13 ¼" in length grades excellent+ showing
light surface wear with some minor gray shadowing
and is complete with red felt blade buffer pad.
Blade features 7" long etched panels with a
central display of Imperial crown above a fouled
anchor flanked at the tip end by a military equipment
motif of flags, cannon and drums while the ricasso
end features a sailing ship. Blade is complete with
red felt blade buffer pad. Dent-free gilted brass
lightning bolt scabbard shows light surface wear
with much gilting remaining as well as traces of
factory frosting adjacent to the scabbard suspension
bands as well as the recesses of the lightning bolt
motif. Scabbard is complete with rope style guilloche
pattern suspension bands. Reverse upper scabbard
is lightly scratched with the initials, "HT".
Dagger is complete w/original Imperial portepee
in single clove-hitch tie showing wear/age &
some fraying to the cord. Nice unaltered WKC M-1901
example recently obtained in Germany. Exc++ (26478)
