M-1901 Navy Officer Dagger w/Ivory Grip & Deluxe Scabbard. Knight's helmet (WK&C) TM. This superb dager was recently obtained in Germany and features the WK&C "no neck" pattern Knight's helmet used by WK&C from about 1910-1914. This pattern TM is illustrated on page 53, lower right of Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany by Thomas M. Johnson and Thomas T. Wittmann. Fire-gilted brass hilt fittings show light surface wear with gilting remaining in recesses of open-crown pommel and large capstan-style crossguard, and heavy quillon block with raised fouled anchor motif. Sides of quillons are hand-chased to match the stippled pattern on the shell of the encountered hairline age cracks. Plated center-ridge double-etched blade measuring 10 ½ " in length features Imperial crown/fouled anchor and sailing ship on both obverse and reverse. Etch pattern retains 100% of the background frosting. Blade is complete with original white leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free fire-gilted brass deluxe scabbard shows surface wear to highlights with gilting remaining in recesses of stippled pattern on base of scabbard. Scabbard features heavily-chased oak leaves and acorns inside geometric panels adjacent to the scabbard bands and on the lower scabbard, with deeply-engraved rope-style scabbard rings.Superb M-1901 example with ivory grip and deluxe scabbard. (26496) $3,250. SOLD
