Imperial Navy Sword w/Deluxe Hilt, Damascus Blade & Deluxe Scabbard. WK&C, side-by-side king's head & knight's helmet TM. This deluxe Imperial Navy sword with Damascus blade was recently obtained in Germany from the granddaughter of the original owner, Naval Ordnance, Feuerwerks = Kapitänleutnant Karl Friedrich Dehnert. Deluxe gilded brass hilt shows minor wear to the highlights with virtually 100% of the matte, honey-gold frosted fire gilding remaining in the recesses of the well-detailed lion head pommel with red and green, Port and Starboard, glass eyes, floral pattern backstrap, oak-leaf ferrule and heavily-chased oak-leaf pattern knuckle-bow. The folding handguard features an angled Imperial crown above a fouled anchor within an oak leaf border, with the reverse folding langet decorated with a matching oak leaf/acorn motif. The celluloid grip is perfect with no cracks, chips or cracks, has aged to a uniform, creamy off-white, and is complete with original tight twisted brass wire wrap. The quillback "maiden hair" Damascus blade measuring 30 ¼" in length grades EX+, showing surface wear with several small spots of gray spotting to the obverse but no pitting or nicks to the cutting edge and, is complete with original red felt buffer pad. The black leather scabbard shows light surface wear/minor cracking to leather with one minor crease just above the lower fitting but, no damage to the reverse stitching. Dent-free deluxe upper, center, and lower gilded fittings feature upper and lower panels with a raised laurel leaf motif separated by a hammered motif and are complete with matching hammered suspensions bands. The fittings retain virtually 100% of the matte, honey-gold frosted fire gilding, and are complete with all four retaining staples. The staple on the lower fitting is slightly loose. Research included with the sword incates that Herr Dehnert was born on October 1869 (according to the family in Remscheid), entered the Imperial Navy in February 1887, was promoted to Kapitänleutnant on 27 April 1912 and was placed on the retired rolls as an Feuerwerks = Kapitän on 18 April 1920. Nice Imperial Navy Sword with deluxe hilt, scabbard and Damascus blade. EX++ (26692) $3,450.
