Candidate Officer Degen w/Unique Grip. Pet.
Dan. Krebs, Solingen, crab within shield TM. A photograph
of this pattern sword with officer pattern pommel
cap and grip without wire wrap appears on page 405,
upper, of Exploring The Dress Daggers and Swords
of the German SS by Thomas T. Wittmann. Nickel-plated
hilt fittings show light surface wear with some
gray speckling and lifting to the pommel cap and
knuckle-bow, but no cracks or other damage. Black
wooden grip shows surface wear, but no cracks or
chips and is complete with gray metal wire wrap.
Polished, matte-finished, straight blade measuring
31 ¼" in length grades EX++ showing
light surface wear/runner marks, but no graying
or nicks to cutting edge and is complete with white
leather blade buffer pad. Steel scabbard retains
approximately 95% of the professionally repainted
black enamel showing light wear and minor loss of
enamel, with one very faint depression to the lower
obverse shell near lower fitting. Dent-free, nickel-plated
upper and lower scabbard fittings show light surface
wear with speckling and minor lifting primarily
to the lower fitting. Upper fitting shows wear to
the factory black enamel in the recesses of the
scrollwork design. Scabbard throat is not SS proof
