RARE Early SS Silver Lion Head Sword w/SS Portepee & Hanger.WKC, knight's head TM. Prior to the introduction of the standard 1936 pattern SS sword, members of the SS were authorized to carry an Army pattern sword. Silver-plated hilt fittings show light surface wear to the highlights with much factory darkening and white frosting remaining in the recesses of the superbly detailed, cast lion head pommel with green glass eyes, backstrap with floral motif, raised oak leaf embellished knuckle-bow, ferrule and crossguard with hand enhanced closed wing eagle. Black celluloid grip shows very minor surface wear with no cracks or chips and with triple twisted silver wire wrap present. Plain, plated blade grades EX++ showing light surface wear/runner marks but, no major nicks or cuts. Blade is complete with brown leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free steel scabbard retains approximately 95% of the period anodization showing light surface rust, wear and crazing. Sword is complete with original patinated SS marked portepee and unmarked black tear drop hanger. An extremely rare sword with matching portepee and hanger. EX++ (27368) $13,465.
