ULTRA-RARE Water Customs Sword w/Retailer's Mark, RARE Hangers & Sword Knot. No maker, retailer marked "A. Lünenburg, Kiel". To the best of our knowledge, this rare Water Customs sword which was recently obtained in Germany, has never been pictured or described in any current reference material. Cast brass hilt fittings show light surface wear/age patina to the stylized lion head pommel with red and green glass eyes, oak-leaf embellished back-strap with angular side extensions, flat oak-leaf embellished knuckle-bow and crossguard with open-wing eagle on the angular langet matching the back-strap side extensions. The under side of the crossguard is stamped, "Ges. Gesch.". Black celluloid grip is perfect with no damage to the tight, triple brass wire wrap. Plain, plated blade measuring 31" in length grades EX/EX+ showing light surface wear/runner marks and a few shallow nicks to the cutting edge, but no pitting or damage to the blade tip. Blade is complete with black leather buffer pad. Black leather, Navy sword style scabbard shows only light surface wear with no bends, creases, or tears to the leather, and no damage to the reverse stitching. The three plain brass scabbard fittings show light surface wear/age patina with a depression to the obverse center fitting and a few minor depressions to obverse/reverse lower fitting. The reverse fittings are complete with undamaged retaining staples. The double-strap black leather hangers grade EX/EX+ showing age crazing to the original patent leather finish and are complete with Navy style lion head buckles and upper pebbled clips and lower black metal clips. The Army pattern sword knot grades Near MINT with a black leather sword strap with triple gold-bullion stripes, silver-bullion acorn and black velvet acorn insert.
