Luftwaffe
Sword w/Hanger.
Paul Weyersberg, Solingen, sword within wreath inside
double-oval TM. This nice aluminum example was recently
obtained from a long-established, advanced collection.
The frosted aluminum hilt fittings retain 100% of
the matte aluminum finish to the pommel and crossguard
with 100% of the matte honey-gold wash remaining
on the pommel and crossguard swastikas. The blue
leather covered grip is perfect with no wear, rips
or tears, and is complete with tight double aluminum
wire wrap. The plated blade measuring 26 ¼"
in length grades EX+/Near MINT, showing minor surface
wear/runner marks, but no gray shadowing/speckling,
pitting or nicks to cutting edges. Reverse blade
is Waffen-Amt stamped with the number "6"
inside a stick-figure eagle, and is complete with
blue leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free scabbard
shows minor surface wear to the blue leather covering,
but no rips or tears and no damage to the seam.
The leather surface has a slight "lumpy"
appearance which is not uncommon to Luftwaffe sword
scabbards, and is apparently caused by a break-down
in the glue that was used to secure the leather
to the scabbard shell. Dent-free, upper and lower
aluminum scabbard fittings grade Near MINT, with
virtually 100% of the frosting remaining, and are
complete with all four, undamaged retaining screws.
The integral blue leather, crescent -shaped hanger
grades Near MINT showing virtually no wear or age
and no damage to the stitching. EX++/Near MINT (26218)
$1,750. SOLD
