Officer's Sword w/Portepee, RARE Bullion Fire Police
Hanger w/Teardrop & Original Fabric Storage

inside elongated oval TM. Nickel-plated hilt fittings
grade Near MINT/MINT showing virtually no wear and
no lifting, crazing or pitting to the plating on
the ribbed pommel nut, upper ferrule, knuckle-bow/crossguard,
or lower oak leaf embellished ferrule. Underside
of crossguard is unmarked. Black wooden grip shows
light surface wear/storage age with no cracks, chips
or depressions, and is complete with tight silver
wire wrap. The silver-plate-over-copper Police grip
eagle is properly inset and shows minor wear to
highlights of eagle with some dark age/storage oxidation
to eagle's wings and oak-leaf wreath. Polished,
matte finish blade measuring 33 ½" in
length grades Near MINT showing only faint surface
wear with no graying, pitting, or nicks to cutting
edge, and is complete with Near MINT, white pebbled
leather blade buffer pad. Dent-free, steel scabbard
retains approximately 98% of the original black
enamel showing a few small specks/areas of missing
paint, but no crazing or scratches. Upper and lower
scabbard fittings retain virtually 100% of the factory
lacquer over the nickel plating with much of the
background finish remaining in the recesses of the
upper fitting. Scabbard throat is unmarked. The
original portepee in EX+ condition features a black
leather strap with three silver bullion stripes,
silver stem, slide, acorn and acorn insert; all
showing dark age patina. The RARE hanger features
a silver bullion-faced, 15" long red leather
strap with silver plated square buckle and black
enameled lower clip. Attached to the upper end of
the strap is a nickel-plated box-type fitting with
nickel-plated regain chain and a brown leather teardrop
hanger with nickel-plated fittings. Bullion hanger
and teardrop grade EX++/Near MINT showing age patina
to the bullion and minor wear to leather, but no
rips or tears to leather, and no lifting to plated
fittings. An example to this pattern hanger appears
on page 255, lower left of Swords of Germany 1900/1945
by John R. Angolia. The original black, canvas-type
fabric storage bag, with leather strap and buckle
closure, shows minor wear/age, but no rips or tears.
Superb Fire Official's sword grouping recently obtained
in Germany from the family of the original owner,
a Major Sommer. Near MINT/MINT (26217) $3,450.
